Agenda: July's Seattle Plone Gathering
Not only will the featured talk be very interesting, but many of you will recall that having started in January, this meeting marks a half year of getting together under the name of Seattle Plone.
We'd like to use the extra time to talk about the direction of the group covering topics like meeting dates, presentations, location, organization, discussion lists, etc. Ideally, we'd really like to hear from folks that do and don't come regularly, so that we can set the direction of the group.
Our featured presentation will be a rescheduling of Lindell Alderman from Seattle Public Schools.
They will be demo'ing a new Plone portal developed for parents to gain easy (and secure) access to their children's class schedules and other information.
Plone is a nice fit for the project in that it was relatively fast to implementation, and has strong linkages with LDAP and MYSQL - both important for integration into the school's enterprise-level authentication and relational database infrastructure - holding information for 47,000 students, over 150,000 parents, and 7,000 staff members.
Plone offered a powerful solution for a district with budgetary problems since the there was also no licensing costs.
